[Tourney Report] Top-4 Split with Enchantress

Despite a clash with GPT Singapore, 17 players gathered on 22 May 2011 in a fight for duals. All 17 decklists can be found on the MtgTrinket facebook page, as well as on our venue host Games Haven. And if you want pictures, you can find them on my facebook page.

Here's the breakdown of the decks played (Top-4 in bold):

[Tourney Report] Angus' Top-4 with Zoo

This tourney report is courtesy of Angus, our local monthly tournament organizer. As he faced High Tide 3 times, memories were fuzzy and some edits were made to provide something more consistent to what his opponents remembered. Nonetheless, Angus made top-4 and here's a shout out to him: Thank you for organizing the monthly tournaments!

[Tourney Report] Top-4 Split with Dredge

What does a Dredge deck fear? Graveyard Hate. Artifacts like Tomord's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus, and Nihil Spellbomb. Creatures like Yixlid Jailer and Faerie Macabre. Instants like Extirpate, Ravenous Trap, and Coffin Purge. Enchantments like Leyline of the Void, Elephant Grass, Ground Seal, and Wheel of Sun and Moon. Also, packages such as Trinket Mage/Enlightened Tutor + Crypt/Relic, Cunning Wish + Extirpate, and Knight of the Reliquary + Bojuka Bog.

Now look at what I found:

[Tourney Report] Top 4 Split with Merfolk!

After the ban on Survival, Legacy is in a state of flux. As you can see from the previous SCG events, Goblins and Merfolk, Counter-top and Junk, and even Deadguy Ale and Green & Taxes (Death & Taxes with green fatties) made top-8.

Now guess what I'd bring to a tourney without a best deck?

[Tourney Report] Enchantress meets Back to Nature

22 players gathered on the 28th of November 2010 for a Legacy tournament at Games Heaven to play for duals, Jittes and Hierarchs. My weapon of choice: Enchantress. Why? Survival.

[Tourney Report] Top 2 Split with Enchantress

On the 29th of August, 2010, an unexpected large turnout of 28 players participated in the monthly 8-proxy Legacy tournament at Games Heaven. Amongst the usual turnout of Kaiser, Yong Xin, Zhi Ming and others, there's many new faces that I do not remember seeing before. With this large turnout, the organisers have increased the prizes by 30 foil cards from From the Vault: Relics, in addition to the original 2 Force of Will, 1 Tarmogoyf, 1 Natural Order, 2 Counterbalance. With 2 copies each of foil Mox Diamond, Sol Ring, Aether Vial, Isochron Scepter, and other EDH playables in the pool, it definitely has become more competitive and rewarding for a mere $20 entry.

[Tourney Report] Merfolk Mistakes

Despite the immense luck I had on 24th July, I played sub-optimally and ended up taking 12th in the tournament. Prior to the tourney, I've been messing around with a Counter-top Thopters list that was powerful, defeating Kaiser's Counter-top Goyf in 3 pre-sideboard friendly games at the M11 pre-release. However, I felt uneasy piloting the deck, and switched to my tried and tested Merfolk list.

[Tourney Report] 2nd place at Library of Alexandria Tournament

On the 2nd day of GP Manila, there was a small number of legacy enthusiasts who turned up for the mox pearl tournament held at Katong HobbySG. However, as there were only 11 people who participated in the tourney, the prize was changed to a Library of Alexandria instead. Still, it's a P10! Not bad at all.

For me, this is my first tournament. The nervousness that accompanied a tingling excitement was mixed with hesitation and fear of failure. Although our team have prepared for it for some 2 to 3 weeks beforehand, I've focused on Reanimator and ANT. Changing the deck just a couple of days before the tourney, coupled with the extreme weak aggro matchup made me feel that the expected value of the tourney doesn't justify entering it. $30 entry in exchange for a Rise of the Eldrazu booster pack? Doesn't seem to be worth it. Even the 3rd and 4th placings would get only 9 boosters, breaking even. Would an inexperience player break even?
