[Brainstorming] Legacy Pyromancer Ascension

Before you ask: No, Pyromancer Ascension probably will not be a tier 1 deck in Legacy.

Ok, now see the list I used in testing:

[Brainstorming] Designing a Budget Legacy Deck - Part 2

In part 1, I mentioned that many budget Legacy decks tend to be weaker versions of established decks. In this 2nd part of the series, let's zoom in to aggro decks and see why there's a point in playing budget aggro decks in Legacy.

Note: many decks in this series reference spooky's awesome post on Legacy budget decks over at MTG Salvation.

[Brainstorming] Pitch World 2.0

If you want a wacky combo deck in Legacy that wins without tapping any land for mana, Pitch World is for you! First widely publicized during Worlds 2007 coverage by Wizards, it has been picked updated by Bryan in our monthly Legacy tournament (all decklists here, my tourney report here). Here's the decklist for Pitch World ver 2.0:

[Tourney Report] Top-4 Split with Enchantress

Despite a clash with GPT Singapore, 17 players gathered on 22 May 2011 in a fight for duals. All 17 decklists can be found on the MtgTrinket facebook page, as well as on our venue host Games Haven. And if you want pictures, you can find them on my facebook page.

Here's the breakdown of the decks played (Top-4 in bold):

[Tourney Report] Top-4 Split with Dredge

What does a Dredge deck fear? Graveyard Hate. Artifacts like Tomord's Crypt, Relic of Progenitus, and Nihil Spellbomb. Creatures like Yixlid Jailer and Faerie Macabre. Instants like Extirpate, Ravenous Trap, and Coffin Purge. Enchantments like Leyline of the Void, Elephant Grass, Ground Seal, and Wheel of Sun and Moon. Also, packages such as Trinket Mage/Enlightened Tutor + Crypt/Relic, Cunning Wish + Extirpate, and Knight of the Reliquary + Bojuka Bog.

Now look at what I found:

[Legacy 101] The Most Broken Sorcery in Legacy

Quick, make a guess! What's the most broken sorcery in Legacy? Life from the Loam? Natural Order? Or even *gasp* Green Sun's Zenith? (What's with the color green nowadays?) Nope, nah, uh-uh. The most broken sorcery in Legacy is still blue – it's Show and Tell.

Here's why:

[Brainstorming] Legacy Hive Mind

Here's a blue deck that thrashes Merfolk consistently.

Serious.

At least it won 4 straight games against me, fighting through 3 Spell Pierce, 4 Daze, and 4 Force of Will main deck in the Jan 2011 Legacy tournament this past weekend.

Here's the decklist:

[Legacy 101] The Archetypes of Legacy MTG

Interested in playing Legacy MTG but feeling overwhelmed by the multitude of decks played in the eternal format? Preparing for your first Legacy tournament? Have no fear cause the Legacy format is easy to grasp and prepare for once you know how.

[Brainstorming] Pyromancer's Tide 2

I mentioned the addition of Pyromancer Ascension into sorcery speed High Tide combo decks last week, because a Pyromancer has to go off when he has to go off, especially when he's on High Tide. Since then, I've tested the deck in a weekly playing session against Goblins in unsideboarded games. Here's what I made out of it:

[Brainstorming] Reanimating Ooze Survival

If you didn't know it yet Phyrexian Devourer and Triskelion in graveyard + Necrotic Ooze = GG. And Survival of the Fittest makes it work by assembling the combo all by itself. As if Vengevine is not enough, this innovative combo ends the game instantly. For those who are looking for new toys to play with in a Survival shell, you will find yet another idea explained later. But first...

[Legacy 101] Introduction to Enchantress (Solitaire)

Essentially a control combo deck, Enchantress has not been posting fantastic results at the SCG Legacy Open Series. Also known as Solitaire for its ability to play itself in the late game, it has posted only 1 win and no other top 16's in the past 12 events, and by that basis it is not really a deck that's performing well (either that or there's not enough players supporting the archetype). However, it boasts good matchups against aggro decks in general and is a decent deck choice given the right metagame for it to shine. Taking advantage of the metagame, that's how you can perform at a tournament.

[Tourney Report] Top 2 Split with Enchantress

On the 29th of August, 2010, an unexpected large turnout of 28 players participated in the monthly 8-proxy Legacy tournament at Games Heaven. Amongst the usual turnout of Kaiser, Yong Xin, Zhi Ming and others, there's many new faces that I do not remember seeing before. With this large turnout, the organisers have increased the prizes by 30 foil cards from From the Vault: Relics, in addition to the original 2 Force of Will, 1 Tarmogoyf, 1 Natural Order, 2 Counterbalance. With 2 copies each of foil Mox Diamond, Sol Ring, Aether Vial, Isochron Scepter, and other EDH playables in the pool, it definitely has become more competitive and rewarding for a mere $20 entry.

[Legacy 101] Introduction to 43-Lands/Blue Lands

Lands. You know you love them when you're mana screwed (unless you're playing Belcher). Some players hate being mana screwed to the extent that they created a deck filled with 60 lands. When they realised the deck sucks, they added some blue in it. And you have a deck that placed 5 top-8's out of a possible 88 slots in the past 11 SCG Legacy Open, right behind Merfolk, Zoo, Reanimator, Goblins, and ANT.

[Legacy 101] Introduction to Two Land Belcher

By Blu3^Ming
Blu3^Ming is a dedicated pilot of combo. Spotting him is as easy as finding the Library of Alexandria he won taped on top of his deck box. Be prepared with Chalices, Spheres, Counterspells, and Mindbreak Trap when he's around.

2 Land Belcher. The pure combo based deck that hasn't been touched by R&B List for a long long while. What makes it better? Why wasn't there anything banned from it anymore?

It's one of those combo deck that wasn't revolving around any 2-3 card combo, the deck itself is the combo. There's nothing that really make the deck consistent at all. The deck was build to be consistent on its own, unlike AnT. Most decklist you can find online differs from each other, seldom you'll see 2 similar decklist for even in the same tournament. With the sufficient knowledge on the deck itself, it's really difficult to beat.
