What SCG Data Tells Us
I have mentioned before that there are 4 pillars of legacy; Vial, Counter-top, Loam, and Ancient Tomb form the skeleton of several legacy decks.I was wrong.
As you can see from the above chart, I had mistakenly omitted decks based on Lion's Eye Diamond and had over-estimated the impact of Ancient Tomb in the legacy metagame. In addition, the printing of Vengevine established Survival of the Fittest as one of the pillars of Legacy mtg. (If you're worried, here are some ways to defeat Survival decks). Now, Vial, Survival, Counter-top, Loam, and LED decks often make up more than 50% of top-8 decks.
Perhaps it is clearer to look at the top-16 decks instead:
Again, the same pattern emerges and is even stronger than the top-8 data. Vial, Survival, Counter-top, Loam, and LED decks make up 50% or more of the SCG top-16 decks. Morale of the story? Either bring a Vial, Survival, Counter-top, Loam, or LED deck, or bring something that can beat all of these.
In the Future
I can't tell you how the metagame is going to shift, but 1 thing is certain from the charts, Aether Vial will continue to push decks into the top tables. Ban Survival? Wizards might as well ban Aether Vial!I'll continue to update the spreadsheet with each SCG Legacy Open event and make it available to all who visit this page, so bookmark this page if it's useful to you. Usually when you record the meta game you put the deck names not just a card used in the deck. Like LED should be divided into" the epic storm", "dredge", and other combo decks. Just mentioning LED is to vague.
ReplyDeleteMy bad, im on my droid phone and didn't realize you did break the cards down into the decks. I R DUM.
