[Brainstorming] Legacy Pyromancer Ascension

Before you ask: No, Pyromancer Ascension probably will not be a tier 1 deck in Legacy.

Ok, now see the list I used in testing:

[Brainstorming] Modern Pauper Ideas

I'm digressing. Having taken a break in blogging, I'm digressing some more and venturing off from Legacy into another Magic Eternal format - Modern. But not just any kind of Modern. With the overall power level muted down to the bare minimum, it is perhaps the most skilled intensive Eternal format ever! I've been racking my brains for deck ideas in Modern Pauper.

[Brainstorming] Pitch World 2.0

If you want a wacky combo deck in Legacy that wins without tapping any land for mana, Pitch World is for you! First widely publicized during Worlds 2007 coverage by Wizards, it has been picked updated by Bryan in our monthly Legacy tournament (all decklists here, my tourney report here). Here's the decklist for Pitch World ver 2.0:

[Brainstorming] Meandeck MUD with Scars of Mirrodin

Now if you're a mana and bombs person, this deck is perfect for you! The release of Scars of Mirrodin brought artifact bombs with it in the form of Wurmcoil Engine, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Myr Battlesphere, and Steel Hellkite. These seemed to have proved their worth when Michael Bomholt made 2nd place at SCG Indianapolis with Meandeck MUD.

Wait no more, here's the decklist:

[Brainstorming] Legacy Hive Mind

Here's a blue deck that thrashes Merfolk consistently.

Serious.

At least it won 4 straight games against me, fighting through 3 Spell Pierce, 4 Daze, and 4 Force of Will main deck in the Jan 2011 Legacy tournament this past weekend.

Here's the decklist:

[Brainstorming] Pyromancer's Tide 2

I mentioned the addition of Pyromancer Ascension into sorcery speed High Tide combo decks last week, because a Pyromancer has to go off when he has to go off, especially when he's on High Tide. Since then, I've tested the deck in a weekly playing session against Goblins in unsideboarded games. Here's what I made out of it:

[Brainstorming] Reanimating Ooze Survival

If you didn't know it yet Phyrexian Devourer and Triskelion in graveyard + Necrotic Ooze = GG. And Survival of the Fittest makes it work by assembling the combo all by itself. As if Vengevine is not enough, this innovative combo ends the game instantly. For those who are looking for new toys to play with in a Survival shell, you will find yet another idea explained later. But first...

[Brainstorming] Scars of Mirrodin (SOM) in Legacy – Affinity 2.0

The release of Scars of Mirrodin (SOM) excites every Affinity player by introducing new robots and shiny trinkets to the Legacy scene. However, the recent Star City Games Legacy Open tournament at Nashville has shown us that building a tier 1 Affinity is perhaps a distant dream. (Note that Survival posted 4 decks in the top 8 and 5 in the top 16!) Let's first take a brief look at what SOM brought to Legacy Affinity.

[Brainstorming] Chandra Ablaze in Legacy Belcher

And you think discussions about innovating Belcher revolves around whether Mox Opal is included in it? Totally wrong! Give it to Zhi Ming to throw in a planeswalker into the combo list. Given his past history of using Clearwater Goblet in Vintage (and winning against t1 combo decks with it), his new idea to throw Chandra Ablaze into 2-land Belcher is not something to neglect. Here's his decklist:

[Brainstorming] Scars of Mirrodin in Legacy – A Fundamental Shift in Stax

First there was Nevinyral's Disk, giving decks everywhere a chance to reset the board. Then came Powder Keg, a cheaper but more restrictive way to remove irritating artifacts and creatures in mono blue decks. With Mirrodin came Engineered Explosives, giving Pernicious Deed to multicolour decks lacking black green. Scars of Mirrodin brought us the new and improved Ratchet Bomb which now removes all threats from Aether Vial and Counterbalance to Tarmogoyf and Jace, the Mind Sculptor. I expect this to be a big boost to Ancient Tomb decks.
