[Tourney Coverage] 28-11-10 Magic Tournament Coverage

First of all, here's the updated Singapore Legacy metagame spreadsheet. Here's the decklists if you're interested. And here's some pictures courtesy of Wenhao and his new blackberry.

Seen enough? Now that that's out of the way, let's dwell into how Survival performed.

If you've read the previous article about the Singaporean Legacy metagame before coming into this tourney, you'll be mentally prepared to face the 13 Belcher, Merfolk, Rock, and Survival decks that constitute 60% of this tourney. Of these, there's 6 Survival decks: 3 UG Madness, 2 Ooze, and 1 Bant. 3 of them eventually made top-8.

Survival dominance? I'd say that it's the player instead.

Yong Xin and Kelvin maintained their 100% top-8 record. Zhiming and Kaiser (woo!) top-8-ed again. Each of them did it with different decks: Belcher, TES, Enchantress, and Madness Survival. In addition, Joshua is a regular standard spike who continued to top-8 in legacy. Ban survival? You might as well ban players from the tourney! (Btw, anyone has more info on the other top-8 players?)

Interestingly, the top-4 consist of Reanimator, Belcher, Ooze Survival, and TES. As per what Kelvin said, combo is a good choice right now as you're faster than Survival's turn 4 clock, and (hopefully) have discard to remove the FoW if your opponent drew it. Hmmm... Sounds familiar...

In addition the most played sideboard card is... *drum roll*... Extirpate! 32 copies in 20 decks! I did not play black, so I do not have first hand experience in this tourney. Did it work for you against Survival? Whether you're the Survival player or the hater, let me know in the comments below!

Lastly, Zhiming made top-8 with a carbon copy of the list I piloted to a top-2 finish back in the days. I wonder if that's more of lady luck smiling at him as he did the impossible and beat TES 2-0 in the opening round. Don't ask me how I did... I hate Back to Nature...

So, did Extirpate work out well for you? Did you think you prepared well enough for the meta, only to find out that it's still insufficient? Let me know by commenting below!
